Our request to DeSimone is “Is it possible for Pier 5 to be restored as a pedestrian load only structure?”, i.e.: not for wartime ship maintenance and transport. It was then suggested by the engineers that it might be possible to retain the pier for that load by the wrapping of only alternate or select piers, not every pier. That approach would allow more flexibility. If that determination is made first, it is then possible to proceed to “Which areas (i.e.: control house pad, crane tracks, edges, extensions to original, etc.) might be are more readily restored as opposed to others”, and “Which are more vulnerable and/or which areas are more important to be retained.”
