Cost of Inaction: Aligning Policy + Practice


For 40 years Pier 5 has been allowed to deteriorate with no maintenance or consideration under BRA watch. This legacy due diligence failure now challenges alignment of BPDA Policy and Practice. Pier 5 has been allowed to deteriorate and now with the expense of revitalization limiting options, an exclusive condo project is rumored to be the only reasonable solution

This expensive negligence now limits financial options for the BPDA to revitalize Pier 5. Long term privatization revenue is assumed necessary to recover from past due diligence negligence.

This puts the private interests of development over Public Well Being.

Boston Rises to Resilience Boston is implementing critical actions to achieve the 2030 resilience mission.

BPDA needs people to help to get back on track to original missions. (See the Petition). The BPDA needs public support to revive the Pier 5 Landmark Park.

We all know what needs to be done. Protect the waterfront from rising seas and privatization. Shovel Ready inaction is failing us. Revive Pier 5 celebrates exceptional leaders of our waterfront community for their unique contributions to making the waterfront more resilient, revitalized, and accessible.Pier 5 is an ecological and historical asset to bank on, not build on.
The surrounding habitat has blossomed for many seasons since responsibility for the park was abandoned.

The City of Boston, private BPDA and the Public are all poised to live up to being a global city. The City of Boston needs to take a step back and look at the big picture. Act on Lessons from New York and other cities.

P5A follows suit with the rising call to action for a comprehensive capital strategy to dramatically reduce regional flood risk from climate change-related storms and sea level rise.

The recent (legal event) will have everyone with their eye on the water reflecting on it. As a part of the recent law milestone is giving the BPDA more time to reflect on it’s legacy modus operandi and prove to the people it can be trusted and the bulldozing ways of the BRA are past.

Assuring Climate Resiliency, preservation of marine environment, view sheds, marine life, birds, coral reefs, air quality for the best interest of all.  Boston is behind leading global Resilient Cities.
