Today, the Pier 5 Association continues to pursue the permanent transformation of Pier 5 into an open, resilient, and inclusive space that honors the site’s maritime legacy and ensures public access for generations to come.
At the most recent BPDA meeting, two new proposals were introduced:
One would demolish the pier to expand the Charlestown Marina, allowing for more private and mega yachts to dock behind locked gates, denying public access, and blocking the historic view, barricading private yachts in the Head of the Harbor view corridor.
The other, from Courageous Sailing, proposes constructing a massive $85 million building—far exceeding the scale of its programming needs—and includes a partnership with ASM Global, the world’s largest private equity-backed event venue operator. This is massive:
