We are Grateful for the Support
To the Editor,
We want to express our thanks to all who turned out on August 26, the hottest day of the summer to rally for Pier
5 to become an open space public park for the entire community of Charlestown to enjoy.
The children who attended had a wonderful time chasing down giant bubbles, creating a live art canvas of Pier 5,
listening to Keytar the Guitar bear and face painting among lots of other activities. The attendees enjoyed
Jenny’s Pizza, Dunkin’ Munchkins and Italian Ice.
We, the Pier 5 Association, want to thank everyone who participated and acknowledge the generosity of our local
donors. Thank you to Allo Playspace; Artists for Humanity; Boston vs Bullies; Jennifer of Creative Chica Face
Painting; Dean’s Concessions/Italian Ice; Dunkin’ Donuts on First Avenue; Dr. Ricky Stern of e Inc; Keytar the
Guitar; Rosie the Riveter/Mary Katherine Moore; Eddie Scheer and the Thursday Night All Stars Band.
We wish to thank the Restore Pier 5 group for their support and thank everyone who donated. We appreciate the
support of the local politicians who attended and the City Council candidates who stopped by. Thank you to the
Patriot Bridge for their coverage of our event. And a special thank you to the outstanding young female cadets
from the U.S.S. Constitution.
We are grateful for the support and participation of our volunteers including Rosemary Kverek; Maureen Laverly;
Isabel Cadene; Nancy Wovers; Elaine Scadding; and Toby Goldstein on our registration tables. The event was
made possible because of the help from Christine Colley; Diane Demoulas; Mary Ann Foley; Michael Kelleher;
Ellen Kitsis; Pat Macalpine; Jennifer Morgan; and Larry Stevens.
Our goal is to engage all Charlestown residents, friends, workers and visitors to our community to help us
envision and create a public park for all to enjoy the magnificent view of the Boston Harbor and the City of Boston
and to contemplate the rich history located here. The harbor and access to it belongs to the people. Help us
make it available for our recreation and contemplation, preserved for generations to come.
