Dear Councilor Murphy and Thomas Mannion,

I was on the Trustees call last night regarding the new design for Piers Park III in East Boston.  What a beautiful addition to the Boston waterfront.  I want to make you aware of a location that could be equally spectacular here in the Charlestown Navy Yard.  Pier 5 is a long abandoned pier.  It has an incredibly rich history and sits right at the Head of the Harbor at the confluence of the Mystic and Charles River.  It is one of the few remaining open piers in the City of Boston.

I am a member of the Pier 5 Association, Inc. and am enclosing some background on our efforts to revive Pier 5 into an iconic and historic destination here in the Charlestown Navy Yard.  We have collected 3,300 signatures on our petition to create a park on Pier 5.  There is an opportunity to design something that would keep this waterfront-facing pier a resilient and open space for the entire community while also creating a compelling destination as part of a visit to the historic Navy Yard.

Our website is http://www.pier5.org and I have attached an Executive Summary as well.  I hope you will take a look.  And if you or Thomas are ever in the neighborhood, please reach out as we would be happy to give you a tour of the area.  Ruthzee Louijeune attended one of our events this past August.

Thanks so much for all you are doing on behalf of the citizens of Boston.  And Councilor Murphy, I am really enjoying your Twitter feed as you hit all the great spots throughout our great city.

Sincerely,

Kathy Elliott
