We are concerned citizens, not affiliated with any organization, who have generated a petition to raise awareness about the imminent privatization threat facing the Boston, Charlestown Navy-Yard waterfront.
Boston residents, developers and concerned citizens, respectfully petition for the conversion of Pier 5 into a public park for the benefit of our community. Pier 5 is publicly owned waterfront property that should serve the public interest, not private organizations. The proposed transfer to Courageous Sailing School represents a concerning pattern of using nonprofit organizations to privatize valuable public waterfront real estate. This continues the BRA’s (DBA BPDA) historical efforts to hand over prime public land to private entities for profit rather than creating accessible public parks. We demand that these publicly owned piers remain in public hands as parkland for all residents to enjoy.
Our community deserves accessible waterfront parks that provide green space, recreational opportunities, and public gathering places for current and future generations.
