“All,I had a busy day, and no time to absorb the absurdity of last night.”
Entirely unprofessional meeting ruled by an unelected aggressive, assaulting individual.
- Only one CNC member, Rosemary Macero, actually read the Pier 5 RFP and the Courageous Sailing proposal. Rosemary showed courage and integrity despite being subjected to the “president’s” berating, unprofessional, and bullying behavior. Thank you, Rosemary, for persevering and upholding the community’s right to be informed.
- The rest of the CNC Board either tolerated or participated in conduct that was an embarrassment to the Charlestown community—a display of incivility and abuse of authority that undermines public trust.
- The “president” deliberately extended the meeting to limit community engagement. Intimidation and rudeness were used to silence substantive public comments, while extensive time was given to unfocused “cheerleading” for Courageous. This was wholly unrelated to the meeting’s stated purpose: reviewing a proposal that amounts to a private equity takeover of a major public pier. The Courageous proposal is a Trojan Horse—claiming the need for an $80 million building for just 100 new sailors, public restrooms (even though BPDA is already installing a septic system at Pier 4), and indoor classrooms that could easily be housed on a floating barge with a green roof or in existing NPS Building 107, currently under renovation. These would be far more practical, affordable solutions for their primarily six-month seasonal program.
- The room was filled with City employees, BPDA staff, former City and BPDA employees, lobbyists, and Courageous supporters—many unaware of the full scope of the project or indifferent to it. Several former City officials were notably rude and aggressive toward concerned residents.
I am deeply grateful to all who participated and spoke the truth.
